Every keyboard shortcut in the image editor at /editor, including undo and redo, typing exact slider values, keyboard slider control, and the keys that confirm or cancel dialogs.
The image editor is designed around the mouse and touch, so it has a small, focused set of shortcuts. There are no single-key shortcuts for switching effects or opening popovers. On a Mac, use Cmd wherever this page says Ctrl.
These work anywhere in the editor.
| Shortcut | Action | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Ctrl / Cmd + Z | Undo | Steps back one change to your look. |
Ctrl / Cmd + Shift + Z | Redo | Steps forward again after an undo. |
Ctrl / Cmd + Y | Redo | Same as the shortcut above. |
Ctrl / Cmd + R | Reload the page | Your photo is restored after the reload. Your look settings go back to their defaults. |
Undo and redo are ignored while you are typing in a text box (for example a preset name or a slider value), so the text box's own undo keeps working as you'd expect.
Undo and redo track your look: the effect, dither method and factor, every slider, colorize, palette, grade, haze and effect-specific settings. Each finished change counts as one step: releasing a slider, choosing an option, applying a preset or clicking random. The first undo takes you straight back to the look you had before your last change.
Changes to the photo itself (cropping, applying the brush, uploading a new image) are not part of the undo history. Uploading a new image starts a fresh history. See Opening images and Selective brush.
Every slider with a number beside it (in adjust, the dither Factor, and the effect popovers) lets you type an exact value. Click the number to start editing.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
Enter | Apply the typed value. |
Escape | Cancel and keep the previous value. |
| Click elsewhere | Apply the typed value. |
Typed values snap to the slider's step and are kept within its range. Type the number as it is displayed, for example 150 for 150% or 1.4 for 1.4x.
The sliders are standard browser range controls, so you can reach them with Tab and move them with the keyboard.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
Tab / Shift + Tab | Move focus between controls. |
Left / Down arrow | Decrease by one step. |
Right / Up arrow | Increase by one step. |
Each key press updates the preview, and the change is saved to the undo history when you let go of the key.
| Key | Where | Action |
|---|---|---|
Enter | Preset name… box after Save current as preset | Save the preset. |
Escape | Preset name… box | Cancel saving. |
| Key | Where | Action |
|---|---|---|
Enter | name this look (publish to community) | Publish. |
Escape | name this look | Close without publishing. |
Enter | Confirmation messages, such as "published" | Confirm. |
Escape | Confirmation messages | Dismiss. |
Escape | Color studio | Close the dialog. |
Escape | Report a bug or request a feature form | Close the form. |
Popovers in the bottom toolbar close when you click outside them or click their button again. The Crop image and brush effect dialogs close with the cross in their top right corner.
Ctrl / Cmd + Z while experimenting with random. Click it a few times, then undo back to the look you liked best.Looking for Studio or video shortcuts? See Studio keyboard shortcuts and Video keyboard shortcuts.
