Answers to the questions people ask most about Bitgrain: what it is, accounts, the free plan and Pro, exports, files, privacy, video and the assistant connector. Each answer links to the page with the full details.
A browser-based creative tool for print-textured artwork. It turns photos into halftone, dither, ASCII, riso-style and film-graded images, and it includes a layered design studio and a video editor that use the same effects. Everything runs in your browser. Start with the quick start.
No. There is no AI in the product, nothing is generated, and nothing is filled in or upscaled by a model. Every effect is a written algorithm with controls you can see and adjust. The one place an AI system is involved is optional: you can let your own assistant operate Bitgrain through the connector, where it only picks settings and calls the same deterministic tools.
No. Your images are not sent anywhere to be processed and are never used as training data. See privacy and determinism.
The editor treats one photo at a time. The studio is a layered canvas for posters, covers and multi-page documents. The video editor is a timeline for clips, music, text and effects. The three workspaces compares them side by side.
It is the name the hub at /hello gives the image editor. The darkroom and the editor are the same tool.
No. Bitgrain runs in a current web browser on a computer or phone. The video editor needs a laptop or desktop screen.
The image editor and the studio work on phones with touch layouts. The video editor does not open on screens narrower than 768 pixels. See phones and tablets.
Not for the image editor. You need a free account for the studio, the video editor, the Pro trial and buying Pro. See accounts and saving.
With Google (continue with google) or with an email address and a password of at least 8 characters. See signing in.
There is no self-service reset yet. Contact support from the email address on your account through the contact page and it will be sorted out by hand.
On the account page, scroll to Delete Identity & Data, click Delete Account, then Confirm Delete. It is immediate and cannot be undone. See deleting your account.
Every effect, preset, palette, film grade, template, mockup and tool, with unlimited exports. Free exports have a small watermark and are capped at 1500 pixels on the long edge. See plans and pricing.
No watermark, full-resolution exports, SVG vector export, video up to 4K, batch processing and cloud sync across devices. Everything else is the same on both plans.
It is a single payment in your currency, covering ten years. Current prices are on the pricing page.
No. You pay once, it lasts ten years, and it never renews. There is nothing to cancel.
Yes. Every account can take a 7-day Pro trial once, with no card. At the end it goes back to free on its own. See the 7-day Pro trial.
At checkout, in the Coupon code field, before you pay. Codes that cover the full price can also be used on the redeem page. See coupons and redeem codes.
You can ask. The pricing page has an Ask for free access link for students, independent artists and people in lower-income regions.
Within 7 days of buying, if you have not exported a watermark-free or full-resolution file yet. Failed and duplicate charges are always refunded. See billing and refunds.
Razorpay for Indian rupees and UAE dirhams, and PayPal for the other supported currencies. Twelve currencies in total. See billing and refunds.
You are on the free plan. The watermark is a small bitgrain.app label in the bottom right corner. Pro, or the trial, removes it.
Free exports are capped at 1500 pixels on the long edge. Pro exports at full size. See resolution cap of 1500 pixels.
Yes. You keep all rights to what you make. Templates, sample images and other assets that come with Bitgrain may be used in your projects, including commercial work, but not redistributed on their own. The terms have the details.
From the editor: PNG, WebP, JPEG, HDR PNG, SVG (Pro), riso separations as a ZIP, and short animations. From the studio: PNG, JPG, WebP, HDR, PDF and animation as MP4, WebM, GIF, SVG (Pro) or Lottie (Pro). From the video editor: MP4 or WebM. See export formats.
The editor's SVG export (a Pro feature) writes ASCII as real text characters, one per cell, so it stays sharp at any size. See ASCII and text textures.
Bitgrain's own project file. It holds your image or design with every setting, and it is free to save and open on every plan. See backing up with .btg files.
Yes, in the image editor. Around 27 RAW formats from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Olympus, Pentax, Leica, Hasselblad, Phase One and others are developed right in your browser. See camera RAW.
Yes. HEIC and HEIF files are converted to JPEG in your browser automatically, in the editor and in the studio.
Images larger than 8192 pixels on the long edge are scaled down to 8192 pixels on the way in. There is no separate megabyte limit, but very large files are limited by your browser's memory. See large images and memory.
In the video editor, use Upload font from device (TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2). In the studio, custom fonts come in with .btg project files. See fonts.
On the free plan, in your browser on the device you used. On Pro, also in your account, so they appear on every device. See where your projects are saved.
On the free plan, projects are lost if the browser's site data is cleared or you used a private window. Check you are on the same browser and device. Lost projects walks through every case.
Not for processing. They only leave your device if you use cloud sync on Pro, publish a look to the community recipes, or use the assistant connector. See what is sent to Bitgrain.
Yes. The same image and settings give the same pixels every time, including grain and noise textures, which are seeded. See determinism.
MP4 needs WebCodecs, which recent Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers support. Without it, export WebM. See the MP4 option is greyed out.
Free accounts export video at up to 720p. Pro goes up to 4K. See video resolution.
Cloud sync saves the edit, not the media files. Import the same files again on that computer. See what cloud sync stores for video.
Yes. Add https://api.bitgrain.app/mcp as a connector, approve it once, and your assistant can run the darkroom, open templates, edit layers and render files for you. See connect AI assistants.
Browsing and building are free, but rendering finished files through the connector needs Pro or the trial. See free tools and Pro tools.
